At Questar they know that great images begin with great optics, but also know that the image is no better than the least functional component of the system.
Questar’s approach to protecting the performance of their optics is to offer carefully balanced and integrated components that work together to solve specific problems.

Video imaging in laboratory and production environments often requires specialised techniques. Questar has had years of experience producing video images through their optics, and have the technical support of some of the best manufacturers in the industry. Questar can provide you with the most appropriate hardware and guide you in the development of the best technical approach.

QM 1 with CCD camera and analog image processor

Lighting is the most critical aspect of any imaging application. Questar uses fibre optic light guides to keep the source of heat away from the optical path, and to put the desired amount of light only where needed. Three types of fibre optic illuminators are available: continuous quartz halogen, continuous very high-intensity metal halide, and controllable high-output stroboscopic. The QM 1 and QM 100 are equipped to be used with brightfield or oblique illumination.

Questar believes in doing as much as possible with the light itself. The fastest and least expensive image processing is optical. Optical filters can greatly enhance contrast and help offset the problems introduced by heat or excessive reflectively. They also may be used to isolate or block a specific wavelength, reduce glare, enhance a specific feature, or control the amount of light that reaches the camera.

Image storage

Images are stored digitally. Questar’s optics are used very successfully with high frame-rate cameras. The QRMS II includes the most highly developed storage capability available in a free standing video system, featuring a complete image archival and post-processing section that stores not only images, but all other digital and analog data to be correlated with the images.

3-axis-linearFixturing is the key to convenient, repeatable, vibration free use of their optics. Control over positioning is essential when you are moving around a one millimetre field of view from a distance 1000 times greater than the field width. Questar’s Floor Stand is easily moved but has the mass to dampen ambient vibration. The Camera Cradle holds all hardware coupled to the lens firmly on-axis. Questar manufactures all of their accessories to exacting specifications, resulting in the assurance that components can be added later without fear of incompatibility. For installations in hostile production environments, Questar packages their systems in weatherised enclosures.
